Iara Roberto,professor and bilingual jorunalist

Iara Roberto is an Assistant Professor of Professional Practice at Oklahoma State University. She holds an M.S. in Mass Communication from Oklahoma State University.

In her role at OSU, Roberto uses her experience to teach courses such as Multimedia Reporting, Field Production, Media Style and Structure, and senior Capstone courses. She currently serves as the faculty advisor for the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, OSU Chapter and chair of the Recruiting Committee at the School of Media and Strategic Communications. Her scholarly projects focus on Spanish/multilingual media and Latino representation in media.

Previously, Roberto worked at Telemundo Abilene as the producer and anchor for the 5 p.m. and 10 p.m as well as a bilingual MMJ for Telemundo, KTAB News, and KRBC News. She has also interned with Univision 23 Dallas with Proyecto U where she produced two in-depth stories for the station and received one-on-one mentorship from award-winning journalists.

Roberto also holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at Arlington in Broadcast Journalism and Spanish with a minor in Journalism. At UTA Roberto served as the News Director and Producer for Arlington Sentinel News en Español and the president for the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, UTA Student Chapter. Roberto produced hyper-local stories for UTA News as well as for UTA News en Español centered around issues affecting the Hispanic community.

Roberto has also participated in trainings with Telemundo journalists, producers, anchors and technical directors, as well as airing content for Telemundo 39 in Dallas. During that time, she produced news stories for national distribution through the Telemundo News Service and continued to learn from experienced producers and reporters.
